1955 Oral History Project [manuscript] 1950-2006.

The ACT Heritage Library and the Migrant Resource Centre partnered in 2004 to document post war-migrant experiences of Canberra. The project was assisted by funding made available by the ACT Government under the Department of Urban Services Community Partnership Program. Historian Barry York interviewed the following migrants who settled in or about Canberra in the mid 1950s. Hilary Merrit (British Community), Anna Skurowski (Polish community), Helmut Frei (Austrian / German Communities), Ann Penders and Bert Penders (Dutch Community) and Connie Smith (British Community) as representatives of the most populous migrant communities in Canberra in 1955. He also included earlier interviews with Guiseppe Catlado (Italian community) and Paul Carbone (Maltese community) in the material collected. The interviews were edited and dramatically recreated by for a DVD made available to ACT Schools, titled Coming to Canberra 1955.
